Salary Range: £35k to £42k depending on experience

Are you a software developer who enjoys solving practical business problems and creating systems that make a real difference?

We are looking for a Software Developer to support the development, maintenance and improvement of our ERP and business software systems. Working as part of our IT team, you’ll help design, build and refine software that supports our manufacturing operations, improves internal processes and enables colleagues across the business to work more efficiently.

This is an excellent opportunity for either a recent Computer Science graduate or a Developer with commercial experience who is looking to develop their skills in a supportive environment and enjoys both technical development and collaboration, with the chance to work closely with departments across the company and see the impact of their work first-hand.

Overall Objective

To support the company’s operations with the architecture, development, and upkeep of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

Consult regularly, as required, with the Senior Software Engineer (IT) to research, architect, develop, document, and maintain systems and features for company software.

Listen to and analyse user stories and requirements to design efficient solutions that consider multiple perspectives.

Write and test code, refining and rewriting it as necessary, and communicate with any programmers (internal or external) involved in the project.

Research, design and write new software programs adhering to business logic.

Develop existing programs by analysing and identifying areas for modification.

Integrate existing software products and get incompatible platforms to work together.

Arrange intuitive, functional user interfaces using HTML and CSS.

Write operational documentation and create technical specifications.

Maintain existing systems and troubleshoot issues by monitoring and correcting software defects to continuously refine performance and usability.

Work closely with other employees, such as IT colleagues, managers, sales and marketing professionals and external software suppliers.

Consult clients and colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems, with a view to writing or modifying them.

Continually update technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and external courses, reading manuals, and accessing new applications.

Investigate modern and innovative technologies.

Use AI to assist in development as required.

Education/Qualifications/Experience

Although technical knowledge and ability is most important, applicants are expected to have a degree (or recognized equivalent) in one or more of the following subjects:

  • Computer science
  • Computer software/computer systems engineering
  • Electronics
  • Information systems
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

Some knowledge and experience of the following languages and environments would be an advantage:

  • C#
  • HTML and CSS
  • SQL (specifically Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Web services (specifically ASP.NET and Blazor / Razor)
  • Microsoft Windows and Web Browsers
  • Cloud-Based Applications

Communicate with clients, colleagues, and management to explain complex issues clearly and concisely.

Experience in manufacturing, food processing sector of similar would be an advantage.
